Running shoes at the break of dawn
Like a sip of cold water
my collection is designed
to revive the wearer and those around her
or breath of fresh air
like an ocean breeze
My knitwear design process begins with the creation of a swatch which I then drape on the form, paying attention to how its natural shape can be wrapped around the body. Then I knit more slightly altered pieces to fill in the gaps and make the swatch into a cohesive garment.
For my thesis I frayed my wovens, allowing me to get to know them a bit better. After playing with them and analyzing their weight/drape I took a pattern drafting approach to bringing them to life.
I have always been interested in a girl who is both sporty and elegant. I researched old Italian lace, paying close attention to the yarns and how they formed the artwork. Then I collaged images of beaches into a simplified lace pattern that I created inspired by the lace I had looked into and added geometry to make it more sporty.
